ARLINGTON, VA—October 17, 2016—Registration is now open for Innovative Defense Technologies’ (IDT) 2017 Programming Contest. This annual event, established in 2011, promotes student interest in programming, computer science and engineering. It is designed for high school students in the Washington, DC metropolitan region.

The goal of the contest is to challenge students by introducing them to real challenges facing software engineers. The focus of the competition is on developing innovative and creative methods of implementing automated solutions and technologies. Interaction on this topic offers students valuable, hands-on experience.

Interested high school students are encouraged to gather their teams and register in the next month. The contest problem will be released on November 29, 2016. Students will have the months of December, January and early February to work on their solutions. The deadline for submissions is February 17, 2017. Finalist teams will be invited to a Presentation Day in Arlington, Virginia on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

During the solution development phase, participants will have the opportunity to check in with IDT engineers to review progress and ask questions. They will use GitHub for code control and final submission. Valuable prizes are given to all finalists and their schools.
