Arlington, VA—March 19, 2015—Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing and analysis solutions for complex systems, announces the winners of its annual High School Programming Contest. This year, Oakton High School (VA) placed first and Poolesville High School (MD) finished second.

IDT’s annual student competition focuses on innovative methods of implementing Automated Software Testing. This year’s problem, addressing automated website testing, was released in December and team solutions were due on February 7. Submissions were reviewed by IDT judges and the top teams presented their solutions this week.

First place was awarded to a team of four students from Oakton High School (VA), and included Michele Wang, Julia Yang, Stephanie Mui and Eric Walters. They were coached by Edmund Lau. The team from Poolesville High School (MD), coached by Mark Estep, came in second. Team members were Suriya Kandaswamy, Peiyi Lin, Seong Joon Yoo, and Umesh Padia.

“The contest problems IDT creates are modeled on real challenges from the automated software testing industry and provide students with hands-on experience in delivering software,” said Seth Watts of IDT, “This was probably our toughest problem yet because it required students to programmatically digest and interact with the document object model of a website in order to drive it like a human user would. We were surprised and pleased by the quality of the solutions presented by the winning teams.”

The two top teams earned cash awards for the Computer Science departments or clubs at their high schools, as well as electronic devices and T-shirts for their participation.

IDT’s annual programming contest is open to high school students in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. For more information about future contests, visit www.idtus.com/contest. Additional pictures of the event are posted on IDT’s Facebook page.
