Students Gain Valuable Experience in Automated Testing Technology

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) welcomed a group of college students for its 2015 summer internship program. The interns will work at IDT for 10 to 12 weeks and be engaged in a variety of opportunities at the company.  Most of them will gain valuable training and experience in automated software testing.

The selection process was highly competitive for this year’s intern class and involved meeting with IDT representatives at college fairs, resume submission and multiple interviews. The majority of interns selected are studying computer science, engineering or math. This year’s group comes to IDT from eleven different universities, including: University of Virginia, William and Mary, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Penn State, Rowan University and San Diego State. They are placed at all four IDT offices.

Intern Training

The intern program at IDT is well established and organized by the Human Resources department. It begins with a full day of orientation about the company. Each intern is assigned a mentor and a manager, and receives thorough training. Throughout the summer there are also plenty of opportunities for the interns to socialize. “The goal is for each intern to receive targeted training and gain hands-on experience in his or her area of study,” said Katherine Weller, IDT’s Director of Human Resources, “We feel fortunate to have so many talented students working with us this summer.”
