Innovative Defense Technologies Gives Back

Employees Participate in Jeans Day Fundraiser to Help the Homeless

October 21, 2013, Arlington, VA – On Friday, October 18, Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) sponsored a unique, company-wide fundraiser. IDT employees were asked to donate five dollars to a nonprofit that helps the homeless. In exchange for their donation, employees could wear jeans to work. All participating employees received a button stating, I’m Wearing Jeans for a Reason.

IDT employees in all four locations took part in the event. Collections began on Monday, October 14, and by Friday, each office had almost 100% participation. The Fall River, Massachusetts employees raised funds for the Bank Street Armory Food Pantry. Our Mt. Laurel, New Jersey office contributed to HomeFront in Lawrenceville. The other two locations joined a Northern Virginia effort spearheaded by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness.

“The event not only brought employees together around a good cause but also gave us the opportunity to make a difference,” said Durwin Bullock, IDT’s Director of Operations. After hearing about the Fairfax County effort, Mr. Bullock encouraged the idea and had it tailored to the various IDT locations.

In the United States, over 600,000 men, women and children are identified as homeless. It’s a problem that affects not only them, but everyone, with social and economic costs to the community and increased public costs for medical care.

IDT’s 90 employees contributed over $600 during this first Jeans Day. The company also donated. IDT hopes to repeat the event in the future.
