For nearly 70 years, the Department of Defense (DOD) has engaged in a consistent process of self-assessment regarding its acquisition of weapon systems. In general, the DOD seeks to reduce costs, improve technical performance, and accelerate schedules in its development and procurement of these complex systems. The burden often falls on Program Managers to eliminate stove pipes and find ways to meet these objectives.
The article, Continuous Integration (CI) in the Cloud, contains a summary of industry best practices that enable Program Managers to more efficiently meet their objectives. It discusses various processes and practices, including: continuous integration, virtualization, automated testing using Automated Test and ReTest (ATRT), and hosting continuous integration solutions in the cloud. The content draws on the experience of engineers at Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) and the practices mentioned have been applied to over 80 programs with significant, measurable results.
Continuous Integration (CI) in the Cloud was authored by Elfriede Dustin and Kevin Caldwell of IDT and was published in the May/June 2016 issue of CrossTalk magazine.
