September 10, 2014—In late August, Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) joined the recent phenomenon known as the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS. IDT’s Fall River office kicked off the effort on August 21 with their video and a challenge to the Arlington office. Arlington answered the call to action the next day. The following week IDT’s additional offices in Mt. Laurel and San Diego followed suit. Video footage is posted on IDT’s You Tube page.
These activities, and those of others nationwide, brought significant attention to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the neurodegenerative illness also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. To date, the effort has raised over $100 million dollars for the ALS Association.
Within IDT, the Ice Bucket Challenge not only raised employee awareness and funds for ALS, but also brought IDT employees together around an important cause. The video created by the Mt. Laurel office focused on statistics and facts surrounding this illness.
ALS affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, and leads to a loss of muscle control. The progressive nature of the disease causes patients in later stages to become totally paralyzed. For more information, or to donate, see the ALS Association website.
