September 2025 – We are so pleased to share that IDT employee, Brian Moberley, was nominated by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) for the Huntsville Association of Technical Societies’ (HATS) 2025 Joseph P. Moquin Professional of the Year award.
The HATS Professional of the Year award recognizes “the exceptional professionalism and achievements of two of their members” each year. Brian was honored to be one of seven nominees for 2025.
Brian is a Senior Systems Engineer at IDT with specialty in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). He has supported the ATRT AI project as well as AEP Next. Brian says he is “always happy to jump on a Teams call to support colleagues working through Systems Engineering challenges”. He has been with IDT for one year and works remotely in Huntsville, Alabama. His People Leader is Travis Niedosik.

In the past year, Brian Moberley has excelled in his profession by leading the way in model-based systems engineering, sharing his expertise in MBSE, SysML, and digital engineering with teams that support mission-critical programs. He has given back to the community by coauthoring AI Assisted MBSE with SysML and developing an upcoming book. Within INCOSE, Brian has strengthened the society by mentoring peers, engaging members, and helping position Huntsville as a national leader in systems engineering.
Brian exemplifies the type of professional the Joseph P. Moquin Award was created to honor—an engineer who not only delivers excellence in the workplace, but also gives back generously to his community and professional society. Professionally, Brian is known for his deep expertise in MBSE, SysML, and digital engineering environments. He applies these skills to real-world programs that are vital to our nation’s defense and aerospace industries, bringing both technical rigor and creative problem-solving to his work. His ability to translate complex modeling concepts into practical solutions has made him an invaluable contributor to his teams and a respected leader among his peers.
This past year, Brian extended his influence beyond his immediate workplace by coauthoring AI Assisted MBSE with SysML, a first-of-its-kind book that explores how artificial intelligence can be used to support model-based engineering practices. This publication has been well received in both industry and academia, further cementing Huntsville’s reputation as a hub for engineering innovation.
Not stopping there, Brian and his coauthor Doug Rosenberg are preparing to release PainFree MBSE in Fall 2025. This upcoming book is accompanied by an interactive Lunar Lander Simulation built in Cameo Systems Modeler. The simulation allows users to either manually land a Lunar Module on the Moon’s surface or switch on an Auto Land feature— all powered by authentic SysML parametrics and activities. By blending real Apollo-era physics with modern systems modeling, Brian has created a tool that’s not only educational but also inspiring. This type of innovation makes MBSE approachable and exciting for students, early-career engineers, and seasoned professionals alike.
Brian’s dedication doesn’t end with technical work. He is a mentor to younger engineers, sharing both his knowledge and his passion for systems engineering to help prepare the next generation of leaders. His enthusiasm for teaching, coaching, and encouraging others embodies the spirit of service that strengthens both Huntsville’s workforce and the broader engineering community.
Within INCOSE, Brian has been an engaged leader and contributor. He supports chapter events, drives technical discussions, and fosters collaboration across the Huntsville professional community. His presence helps bring members together, spark conversations, and ensure that Huntsville continues to be a strong voice in the national and international systems engineering dialogue. For his technical excellence, thought leadership, mentorship, and dedication to advancing the engineering community, Brian Moberley is a deserving nominee for the Joseph P. Moquin Award.
